Acid attack victim: Sunglasses–and God’s hand–saved my vision
Acid attack victim: Sunglasses — and God’s hand — saved my vision
- She had bought the sunglasses just 20 minutes before the attack
- An unknown woman approached her and threw the contents of a cup in her face
- Police in Vancouver, Washington, have released a composite sketch of the suspect
- The victim had surgery; doctors don’t know yet how much damage her face suffered
(CNN) — Bethany Storro doesn’t usually wear sunglasses, but she got a surprise paycheck and bought a pair earlier this week. Those sunglasses, she is convinced, saved her eyesight when a woman threw a cup of acid in her face 20 minutes later.
“God is watching over me,” Storro, of Vancouver, Washington, told CNN affiliate KATU in Portland, Oregon. “I believe in him. That his hands are on me and I can’t live the rest of my life like that — in fear. I can’t let what she did to me wreck my life.”
Storro is hard of hearing due to a childhood virus, so her sight is especially important to her, particularly because she can read lips.
Vancouver police say they are looking for the assailant, described as an African-American woman with an athletic build and slicked-back hair pulled into a pony tail.
Storro told KATU that she had stopped at a Starbucks about 7:15 p.m. Monday, just after she had gone back to buy a pair of sunglasses that she had seen earlier. The woman walked up to her and said, “Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?”
When Storro declined, the woman threw the contents of the cup in her face and ran off.
“When I first saw her she had this weirdness about her, like jealousy, rage,” Storro said.
Storro underwent surgery at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, where she held a news conference Thursday with her head covered by bandages.
Storro said she spoke about the attack because she wants people to see what the woman did to her and to help authorities find the woman before she assaults someone else.
Still, she has questions about the senselessness and seeming randomness of the attack.
“Why did you” do that, Storro asked. “Did you wake up that morning and go, ‘I’m going to, I’m going to carry some acid in a cup and throw it at the first person that I see?’ Was it a dare? You know, why me?”
Speaking with her parents by her side, Storro described the pain she felt.
“Oh, you don’t even know!” she said. “It was the most painful thing. Like I told everybody, my heart stopped. I almost passed out. It’s like, imagine — I mean, it ripped through my clothes the instant it touched my shirt. I looked down and it just ripped through my shirt and made holes in my shirt.
“So imagine that on your skin. I could hear it sizzling. Once it hit me, I could actually hear it bubbling and sizzling my skin.”
Doctor aren’t sure yet how bad Storro’s face has been damaged because she’s just starting to heal.
But the attack does not seem to have hurt the woman’s spirit.
“I try to stay positive, and there’s moments when I get really frustrated, and I want to get mad at somebody,” Storro said. “But there’s nobody to get mad at, you know.”

This article talks about how a random woman was attacked by another random woman who poured acid on her face. This act was done for no reason. One woman walked up to the other and asked her if she wanted a drink, when she declined the women threw acid on her face. The acid affected and damaged her face and body. She was brought to a hospital were she had many surgeries. She is still recovering and doctors don’t know the damage done to her face. The attacker is still on the loose.
This is a crime beacuse the women attacked hurt and injured the other women for no reason. This crime could be considered assult because she radnomly attacked and injured a woman. This crime is scary beacuse it could happen anywhere and to anyone. It is also hard to prevent because it is done randomly to people and the attacker is random.
After walking out of a Starbucks at 7:15pm, 28 year old Bethany Storro had a cup of acid splashed in her face by an unknown woman. Luckily, she had bought sunglasses just 20 minutes prior to the attack, saving her vision from the corrosive acid. The woman that attacked Bethany ran away after throwing the acid on her and is still yet to be identified. A composite sketch and description of the attacker has been released to the public, hopefully aiding/resulting in the apprehension of the subject.
I believe the crime described in this article is assault. The woman that threw the cup of acid on Storro clearly wanted to inflict as much damage as possible on her and obviously knew what the cup contained, therefore when she is caught she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent.
Hearing what happened to this innocent woman is appalling, but sadly there is no way to prevent a horrible crime like this one. When an attacker tries to hurt someone for literally no reason, the person is caught completely off guard and has no way to defend themselves. I think people like the lady that threw the acid on Bethany definitely have some sort of a mental problem. I’d like to believe that normal people would never do such a thing.
This article is about a woman named Bethany Storro in Vancouver, Washington and was randomly attacked walking down the street by another random woman. She was walking down the street when a small African-American woman approached her and asked if she wanted something to drink. When Bethany kindly declined she threw the liquid in the cup at her face, which turned out to be acid. Bethany had server burns and had damaged to her clothes that had been eaten away by the acid. She believes that her eyesight was saved by a pair of glasses she just bought 20 minutes before the attack. Bethany was brought to the hospital and had to have surgery to help her burns on her face and body. Doctors still do not know to result of the damage because the skin is just starting to heal now. The woman who committed the crime is still loose and being looked for by authorities. This is a case of assault, and it shows that it was planned because she brought the acid from where she was. The fact that she did damage to her face, body, and clothes shows the criminal acts that were done. The assault would be very easy to press charges for and this makes you think about the people you are walking around cities with and just shows that you never truly know what strangers are thinking. This makes you take a step back and look at the people you walk by everyday with noticing. I feel that if authorities could find any information about why she picked Bethany or what made this woman commit this crime, we would find out a lot about this story and it would help solve it piece by piece.
This article is about a woman getting acid thrown into her face by a stranger. By chance, the victim happened to have on a pair of sunglasses she had just purchased, which ended up saving her vision. The suspect has not been caught, but the victim believes the suspect was angry and jealous, possibly throwing the acid due to envy of the victim’s looks.
The attacker is an example of ‘mens rea’ to start with. One does not carry acid around in a cup normally, the anecdotal evidence supports that the attacker had criminal intent. This would probably fall under aggravated assault, and in my opinion ‘mala in se’ as well, since there is nothing right about trying to disfigure or blind a person.
My reaction was one of disgust. Unfortunately I’m a bit familiar with stories of violence, but even so, hearing about how one person can try to hurt or disfigure another without even knowing them, it’s abhorring. Granted that we don’t have all the information, include why this victim was chosen or what the M.O. of the attacker was, but from what’s presented it seems like the attacker just wanted to hurt or ruin something of beauty.
The above article explains the happening that led to Bethany Storro’s face being destroyed by acid. It was early in the morning in Vancouver, Washington, a place that has very little sunlight, and Storro was leaving a Starbucks with her brand new sunglasses bought even earlier that day. As she was leaving, a woman described as being African- American, having an “athletic build”, and a “slicked back pony tail” walked up to her with an open cup. After Storro refused to drink the contents of the cup, the woman threw the liquid onto Storro, hitting her face. The acid immediately began to dissolve her face and bits of clothing. Storro is in the hospital as doctors try to asses how much permanent damage will remain.
Acid Throwing is aggravated assault, since in doing so a person caused another person bodily harm. A simple way to understand why assault is considered a crime is to think about kids on a playground. Even when we were young we were encouraged not to hit each other, even if the other person skipped on the swing. This way the playground is a bit more peaceful, as the kids are playing more harmoniously. Applying this to a larger scale, such as communities, the same principle applies.
I first saw this on the news where they actually interviewed a bandaged Storro. Something like this is startling and terrifying, as it appears to be entirely random. It could have happen to anyone, which makes even me feel vulnerable. But as Storro mentions you cant live your life living in fear that there is always someone around the corner coming to get you. I am very anxious to see if the suspect will be found, not necessarily so that she may deal with the consequences of her actions (which i do believe is important) but to discover what drove this woman to harming a innocent person. Maybe then situations like this can be prevented.
This article talks about a woman who was randomly attacked and was lucky that she had bought sunglasses 20 minutes before, which ended saving her eyesight. A woman was asked by another strange woman if she wanted to drink the contents of the cup she was holding. When the first woman refused, the strange woman threw the contents of her drink into the first woman’s face, which ended up being acid and burning and damaging the first woman’s face. So far the description the police have is an African-American woman with an athletic build and hair pulled back. Even though the first woman was badly injured and was randomly attacked, her spirits are still up and she is thankful to still have her sense of sight.
The crime that takes place in this case is assault, which is an unlawful violent attack on another. I believe that the assault in this case is a crime because the strange woman randomly attacked another woman. She knowingly and willingly attacked another human being with the intention of harming and injuring that person. She was violent by using acid to hurt the other woman’s face. This particular crime made me realize that anything can really and truly happen anywhere, anytime. Assault isn’t just happeneing within groups of people and attacks aren’t just done to people who know one another. They can happen to anyone and that means that people really have to be careful and protect themselves from anything and anyone.
On September 4, 2010 Bethany Storro was attacked by an unknown woman. The woman asked Storro if she wanted to drink out of the cup she was holding. When Storro declined to taking the drink, the woman threw the cup into Storro’s face. The contents of the cup was acid. Storro suffered from severe injuries to her face and had to endure multiple surgeries. The doctors will not know how damaged Storro’s face is until it heals. Storro was a vicitim of assault. She was subjected to violence that physically harmed her. Storro is not letting this act ruin her life. She stated that she did not want to live her life in fear

Storro suffered from severe injuries to her face and had to endure multiple surgeries. The doctors will not know how damaged Storro’s face is until it heals. Storro was a vicitim of assault. She was subjected to violence that physically harmed her. Storro is not letting this act ruin her life. She stated that she did not want to live her life in fear. Storro is trying to stay positive. After reading this article I was shocked. I would have never thought that something like this could happen. It makes me think if anything like this will ever happen to me. I would really like to know what the unknown woman was thinking. I want to know what motivated her to attack another woman in such a brutal way. I empathize with Storro for what she went through and the pain she delt and still is dealing with. This attack was such a random act that I feel it could happen to anyone.
Storro was attacked by an unknown woman with the use of acid. The article reads that the woman asked her if she wanted to drink what was in the cup. This statement makes me believe that the real motive of the unknown assailant was to have her drink the acid which would kill her from the inside. Instead Miss Storro politely refused the drink which infuriated the woman who had to resort to throwing the acid onto her face. The motive as to why the woman wanted to give Storro the acid filled cup is a mystery as the attack seemed random since it seems that neither women actually knew each other. This type of crime is extremely difficult to combat seeing as the woman was able to conceal the acid in a cup and walk into a Starbuck’s with it without anyone wondering what was in the cup. No one would have thought twice since Starbuck’s is a coffee shop and her walking into the restaurant with a cup in her hand would have raised no suspicion at all. It is extremely fortunate that Storro was wearing the sunglasses she had bought just merely twenty minutes before the attack because without those glasses she would have lost her eyesight which she so deeply counts upon seeing as she has trouble hearing due to a childhood virus.
Having just bought brand new sunglasses, Bethany Storro was interrupted with a traumatic attack. On a Monday at 7:15 p.m. Storro stopped for some coffee after her purchase. An athletically built African-American woman randomly approached her asking her if she wanted to drink this. Bethany Storro said she looked like she was in rage or jealousy. The woman had thrown a cup of acid all over her burning holes through her clothes and instantly sizzled away at her skin. Storro was rushed to the emergency room and was operated on. Doctors are still unsure the amount of damage the acid had done to her face.
This case can be considered an aggravated assault. This is an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury. The invader clearly had criminal intent as she was casually walking around with a cup of acid. Nobody walks around with a harmful chemical without the intentions of harming someone. I also believe this is assault because Storro had never seen this lady in her life as she ran away after whipping the acid in her face.
The aggravated assault is a crime of mala en se because the enemy had a form of a weapon present ready to attack. This was immoral and just plain evil to even think of doing such an act. To me this lady sounds as though she is legally insane. As a police investigator I would report this crime to the UCR because it is a very serious matter with the attempt to cause a serious injury. Furthermore, the assault is under Part 1 crimes, which are all considered crimes of violence. As for Bethany Storro, Monday just wasn’t as bright as she thought it was when she picked up her new shades and headed to Starbucks.
Bethany Storro was attacked by an unknown woman on September 4, 2010. The unknown woman had a cup that contained acid and asked Storro if she wanted a drink from the cup. When Storro refused the offer the woman threw the contents in the cup onto Storro’s face. Storro had to go through multiple surgeries and went through pain she can’t even describe. Storro says the acid ripped her shirt apart and could hear the acid bubbling on her skin. The doctors do not know yet how much damage was done to Storro’s face because it is not yet healed. Luckily right before the attack Storro had purchased glasses and was wearing them at the time of the attack. She believes that her newly bought pair of glasses save her eyesight and believes that God was watching over her. She is keeping her spirits high and staying positive throughout this horrible experience.
Storro was attacked and a victim of assault. She was physically assaulted and harmed. Assault is an unlawful and violent attack on another person. I believe assault is a crime in this article because the unknown woman threw a cup which contained acid onto Storro’s face with intention to hurt her. This unknown woman attacked Storro at random willingly with intention of hurting her. By throwing acid into her face she knew she would be injuring Storro, which is an act of violence.
The crime in this article would be mala in se because it is a “bad to the bone” crime. Because the crime in this article is aggravated assault which is the unlawful act of intentionally harming another person. It is wrong, immoral, and evil, which makes it mala in se. Since Storro was randomly attacked and injured by the woman throwing acid in her face this crime is mala in se because she was assaulted and hurt. As a police investigator for this story I would rather report this crime to the NIBRS because it collects a wider range of information about the crime and victim. Reporting this crime to NIBRS will collect more data on this single crime than UCR. UCR does not collect as much information on each individual crime as does NIBRS.
Last week, Bethany Storro received a surprise paycheck from her job, so she decided to treat herself to a new pair of sunglasses. After her purchase, she walked into a Starbucks in Vancouver, Washington around 7:15 P.M. An African-American woman of athletic build walked up to her and asked, “hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?” When Bethany Storo declined the woman’s drink, the woman threw the liquid in Storro’s face and ran away. The cup contained acid and splashed onto Bethany Storro’s face and body. God was definitely on Storro’s side that evening, because she was ironically wearing the sunglasses she had recently purchased, which saved her eyesight. Storro suffers from a hearing disability due to a virus as a child, so her eyesight is imperative to her because she reads lips. The woman responsible for this evil crime is still out there.
The crime in this article is aggravated assault. Aggravated assault is an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury. Aggravated assault is usually accompanied by the use of a weapon or by means likely to produce death or great bodily harm. Storro’s attacker went out of her way to approach Bethany Storro, and in this case, the woman’s weapon of choice was the acid.
In my opinion, this aggravated assault should be considered “mala en se”. “Mala en se” describes crimes that are viewed as criminal because they are wrong, immoral, or evil in themselves. Bethany Storro must now live the rest of her life with acid burns covering her face and body because this woman decided to throw acid on her for no apparent reason. According to the Uniform Crime Report (UCR), aggravated assault is considered a part 1 or index crime. Part 1 offenses are more serious crimes, or felonies, and “typically involved serious offenses against persons or property and therefore elicit much public interest or concern”. I would not report this crime to the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) because there is only one major crime in this article, where as NIBRS reports multiple crimes in one incident.
Having received a surprising paycheck, Bethany Storro, bought a pair of sunglasses she usually would not buy. 20 minutes after, she stopped at a Starbucks at around 7:15 p.m., while walking out she got ran up on by an African American lady asking if she wants to drink from a cup that she, the assailant, was holding in her hand. Once Storro refused the drink, the assailant then threw the cup of acid in her face and ran off. Storro was rushed to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Washington, where she underwent surgery. She later spoke out at a news conference Thursday because she wants people to see what the woman did to her and to help authorities find the woman. Ms. Storro also described the pain she felt, “It was the most painful thing. Like I told everybody, my heart stopped. I almost passed out.” There was suspected reason for this attack but envy on the side of the assailant of the victim’s looks. Vancouver police are still looking for this person, and has just released a composite sketch of the suspect.
The assailant would be charged with aggravated assault. She would be charged with that because she caused another person bodily harm. The suspect obviously knew the cup of acid would cause the victim extreme pain and damage. Therefore she would be prosecuted to the fullest extent.
I believe this is a case of “Mala en se” because this attacker slashed the cup of acid in the victims face knowing that it would disfigure the person’s face. And if it weren’t for the sunglasses she would have been blinded. If I was the police investigator I would rather report the crime in to NIBRS. Even though UCR is for more limited crimes as felonies, NIBRS overcomes the problems on UCR. It is more comprehensive data and can collect multiple crimes to one case where as UCR cannot.
Bethany Storro of Vancouver, Washington was a victim of a malicious crime. She said that her sunglasses which she had purchased just minutes before they attack saved her vision. Storro’s reasoning for her purchase was because she had a nice paycheck and says the classes before but that she also believed in him (referring to God). Her vision to her is everything do to a child hood virus which impaired her hearing. Vancouver police have not found a suspect, but do have description of criminal; which is described as an African-American woman with an athletic build and slicked-back black hair in a ponytail. Bethany underwent surgery in Portland and had a news conference, so that people can see what this woman did and to help police. But she doesn’t understand why it happened to her and the motivation of this criminal.
Classical School of Criminology believes human behavior is rational, people have the ability to choose right from wrong, and people rationally choose to commit criminal acts. This concept believes people have the ability to choose right from wrong and that the major element governing a person’s choice of action was the basic human desire to obtain pleasure and avoid pain. Leaders thought that people would willingly refrain from crime once they had calculated that the penalties attached to it would exceed the pleasure involved in the act itself. They believe crime is immoral and that it breaks bond between individuals and society. Punishment is a necessary evil and also seeks to deter law violators and serve as an example to others not to commit crimes.
This criminal knows attacking a human being that is defense less is wrong. Not only has this person instilled fear into her but the rest of society, who knows if they will strike again. The woman that is believed to had done this, had a pleasure to fulfill for herself cause Storro said she had a “rage” like jealousy. The criminal may have done this to feel more secure about herself. Clearly, something mentally is wrong with this person. On the way she went about doing this attack. If caught, the attacker should be punished. But the punishment would have to fit the offense and punishment should be prescribed. But torture is unethical; the only suitable punishment would be jail time.
Bethany Storro had received some extra money this particular week and decided that she was going to treat herself to a new pair of sunglasses. She isn’t someone who typically wears sunglasses but felt that this would be a good gift to herself. After she purchased the new pair of sunglasses that she had seen earlier during the day, she decided to stop in a Starbucks. Little did she know, this would be when her life was going to change forever. A African American women walked up to her, asking if she wanted to drink the cup that she was holding, when Bethany declined to the offer, the woman threw it in her face. The cup was filled with acid which immediately began burning Bethany’s clothes and her skin. She said that she could hear the sizzle on her skin and almost past out due to the amount of pain she was experiencing. Bethany was taking to the hospital and the following day held a news conference in hopes of helping the detectives to find the assaulter. Bethany remains in good spirits, vowing to now allow this ruin her life.
The classical school of criminology states that human behavior is rational, people have the ability to choose right from wrong, and people rationally choose to commit criminal acts. When this school was first introduced by scholars hundreds of years ago, they believed that if they could make punishment worse for the criminal, than the actual act of crime they want to commit, this would prevent future crimes.
The classical school criminology state several basic ideas about citizens and their beliefs on committing crimes. The first idea states that citizens have the right to get what they want, whether they get it through legal or illegal actions. Second, the classical theory believes that putting the fear of punishment into someone can stop them from committing that crime. And finally, the last idea states that society can control criminal behavior by making the “pain” of punishment more costly than the actual crime itself.
If someone from the classical school of criminology were to read this article about Bethany Storro being attacked, I believe they would feel that punishment would need to be taken against the attacker. As Bethany stated in the article, “Did you wake up that morning and go, ‘I’m going to, I’m going to carry some acid in a cup and throw it at the first person that I see?’ Someone from the classical school would most likely believe that the attack had been pre-calculated. The attacker knew that she was doing before the actually committed the crime. The person viewing the crime from the classical school would find a punishment that would make it known not only to the criminal but as well to the general public that this is not something that is going to be easily punished. They would find a punishment that would make it known to others that there is nothing to gain from this action and if
Bethany Storro was innocently going about her day at Starbucks, also having JUST bought sunglasses, she was surprisingly attacked by an African American women who threw acid in her face from a cup. The attacker asked, “Do you want a drink from this?!” As soon as Bethany denied the offer, the cup was splashed and thrown into the victims face. It ate through her clothes and immediately starting eating at her skin with sizzling and bubbling. The attacker got away with just a brief description of what she looks like. Bethany went to the hospital and announced her attack in a conference hoping to find the attacker and to warn anyone else out there that the same thing could happen to them and to be very cautious. Bethany is keeping a very positive attitude about all of this. She is not going to let it ruin her life and she is so thankful she had just bought those sunglasses that saved her vision. The Classical School believes human behavior is rational, people have the ability to choose right from wrong, and people make rational choices to commit crimes. Essentially, humans are rational and guided by free will. There are many complex variables in reasoning to commit a crime determining rational choice. The school determines human behavior by pain and pleasure. They believe punishment is a necessary evil and that crime is immoral because it breaks the bond between individuals and society. Involving this crime, the Classical School would definitely feel that they need to punish the attacker that threw acid on Bethany. Because of the randomness of this crime, the school would think the crime had to be planned ahead of time. Maybe the victim could have been random, but the attacker knew exactly what she was doing. As far as punishment goes, the school would warn the attacker as well as the whole community about the crime and the fact that punishment won’t be taken lightly. Hopefully, that will prevent the same incident from happening again. In the mean time, everyone can only be cautious.
In September 2010, Bethany Storro bought herself a brand new pair of sunglasses because she had just received her paycheck. After buying the sunglasses, she went to Starbucks for a cup of coffee. While she was there, an African-American woman with a tight ponytail and an “athletic build” approached her and offered her the drink that she was holding. When Bethany declined, the woman threw the “drink” in her face. This drink turned out to be acid. The acid immediately began to burn Bethany’s skin and clothes. She was thankful to have been wearing her brand new sunglasses because they saved her from going blind. Bethany was rushed to the hospital and was still recovering when she announced her attack at in press conference in the hopes of finding her attacker. Bethany Storro’s physical appearance may be altered but her spirit is still strong.
The Classical School of criminology states that people are rational and have the ability to choose right from wrong. It says that most behavior is the result of free will and that pain and pleasure are the two central determinants of behavior. Classical School criminologists believe that punishment seeks to deter law violaters and serve as examples to others to not commit crime.
A criminologist from the Classical School would say that this attacker should have a severe enough punishment to fit the crime. This person knows that it is morally wrong to throw acid in someone’s face and had obviously premeditated it because she had the cup of acid in her hand when approaching the victim. Although it appeared to be a random attack, the victim said that her attacker that a jealousy-like wierdness about her. Because crime is immoral, this attacker, if found, should be punished for throwing acid in an innocent woman’s face.
On sept 4th, 2010 Bethany Storro was a victim to a violent crime for absolutely no reason. She walked into a starbucks coffee shop and an african american woman came up to her and asked if she’d like her drink. When Storro declined she took the cup and threw it in her face. Turns out that the contents of the cup were actually acid. Luckily for Bethany she had happened to buy a pair of sunglasses from a recent paycheck that saved her vision. She had already had hearing problems so her vision was very important to her. The first theory that comes to mind after reading this article is the Strain theory. Storro quotes, “When I first saw her she had this weirdness about her, like jealousy, rage.” The Strain theory is viewed as crime from the result of anger or frustration which this african america woman clearly had. There had to have been some reason from why she did this. I believe that this woman committed this crime from sheer jealousy. Maybe just seeing Bethany walk in with the sunglasses made her do it. Storro thanks god and believes his hand was there to help her.
UPDATE TO STORY:
Bethanny Storro was the world’s most heart wrenching victim when she claimed that a strange African-American woman threw a cup of acid in her face as she walked out of Starbucks. She was praising God for sparing her life and even said that she “would forgive the woman in time…” for committing such an act of rage and violence against her. Storro received thousands of letters and prayers from groups on Facebook and appeared on various morning talk shows around the world. Financial contributions to the tune of $28,000 were sent to Storro to help aid in her medical bills. But none of that money would be spent for medical bills.
All of this was an elaborately planned hoax in effort to cash in after a suicide attempt her suicide plan was botched. Storro deliberately wiped her face with drain cleaner and made up this story to get free plastic surgery. She is now charged with multiple counts of theft and could potentially face up to five years in prison for this media attention scheme.
In my opinion, Storro’s criminal behavior falls in to the Merton’s Anomie/Strain Theory. She exhibited attention seeking behavior with the suicide attempt; however she changed her behavior pattern when she decided to make her botched suicide attempt into an opportunity to gain plastic surgery without having to pay for it. She was innovative with her claim that she was a victim, repeatedly describing in detail the attacker and the alleged attacker. She manipulated the media and society into thinking she was a crime victim when she was actually the perpetrator. I believe she needs more mental help than incarceration for her crime.
This article is about a Vancouver woman, Bethany Storro, who was approached by a stranger who proceeded to throw a cup of acid in her face. It happened twenty minutes after Storro bought a pair of sunglasses in which she usually does not wear. Storro believes that these glasses saved her from losing her vision. Storro was leaving Starbucks when approached by the woman; once this seemingly jealous woman threw the acid in her face instantly started to burn through her skin and cloths. She is still healing so doctors do not yet know the extent of her injuries.
Storro’s attacker is described in the article as “weirdness about her, like jealousy rage”. This helps me to understand what type of traits this African American woman possesses. That is why I chose the Personality Theory. What this theory means is that an individual with certain characteristic predisposes one to criminal behavior. When these characteristics combine they form deviant criminal behavior.
Thinking on the lines of the Personality Theory, it gives me some reasons to why I believe this woman attacked Storro. Weird, Jealousy, and rage are three personality traits that when combined can be a vicious combination. Especially if one cannot control these this is when they turn into criminal behavior. I think this woman threw the acid in Storro’s face because of the personality traits she posses she cannot control or chose not to control. This vicious combination of traits is why this woman attacked Storro without even thinking twice about it. She is predisposed to what one would call “criminal behavior”.
